This material has an interesting history coming from a dining and entertainment complex that was built with reclaimed timber in the 1970’s – making them now twice reclaimed. The beams were installed in the complex and then sandblasted – some of the 8x8 painted afterwards. The grade is good dense old growth. The 8x8 rafter stock that is generally 10’-35’ long had been creosote painted in their original life, then sandblasted so the top side still has that on those. This appears to be topical and generally removed on the sandblasted surfaces. These were used as exposed beams in a restaurant complex. Sandblasting is profound but they are great looking architectural timbers or great to cut clean 7x7 of high grade. Additionally, we have fumigated the 8x8 along with some other stock we had on hand just as a maintenance measure - so could rest easy knowing you wouldn’t be purchasing any beams with potential termite activity.
